The Good Food Institute operates from the same conviction M2 does: the only way to fundamentally change what people eat is to make the alternative undeniably better — not to lecture, protest, or moralize. Their strategy is to render conventional animal agriculture economically obsolete by making alternative proteins more delicious, more affordable, and more accessible than what they replace.

GFI's policy teams have unlocked over $1.67 billion in global public investment for alternative protein research. Their open-access science grants remove the bottlenecks that prevent plant-based and cultivated foods from competing at scale. Their regulatory work cleared the path for the world's first government approval of cultivated chicken.

Compared to conventional meat, alternative proteins emit up to 90% fewer greenhouse gases, require up to 95% less land, eliminate antibiotic resistance contribution, and dramatically reduce pandemic risk from zoonotic disease. On Lab-Grown Meat

M2's position on
cultured meat technology.

Cultured meat is coming. It will be a meaningful improvement over industrial animal agriculture — for animals, for the environment, and for food safety. M2 genuinely welcomes it. We are not threatened by it. We are not against it.

But we will hold one line, clearly and permanently: cleaning up animal protein does not change what animal protein does inside the human body. The metabolic consequences — elevated IGF-1, systemic inflammation, TMAO production, accelerated aging pathways — are biochemical properties of animal muscle tissue itself. They cannot be bioreactored away.
